Wilda Sue Barber

ROGERS — Wilda Sue Barber, 71, of Rogers passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009.

She is survived by one son, Brett Shirley of Indiana; two daughters, Karen Myers of Rogers and Christina Warnick of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin Sales of Benton; and a sister, Claudette Miller of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvious Claude and Daisy Jewel Smith Sales.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Jonesboro under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home. No visitation is planned.

Naomi Bush

JONESBORO — Naomi Jeanette Bush, 90, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009.

She was born on Dec. 6, 1918, to Hatley and Clara Moore Ring. She was proud to call Walnut Ridge her home for most of her life. Moving to Jonesboro in 2004, she made a second home, living a productive and new life at St. Bernards Village.

Jeanette graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in 1935 and then attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, earning a bachelor of science in education degree. During World War II she then worked for the local Selective Service office in Walnut Ridge.

Jeanette’s passion for teaching continued for 33 years in the Walnut Ridge school system. She is fondly remembered by many as their favorite English and literature teacher. Throughout her life she remained in contact and continued to love and remember all those she taught in years past. These were cherished memories in her life.

Jeanette married the love of her life, Ben Bush, on May 31, 1948. They were a devoted couple to each other for 48 years, being separated only by death in 1996.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and only sister, Katherine Doanes, as well as other extended family members.

Ben and Jeanette had one son, Ben R. Bush Jr., whom they loved very much. When Ben married Pamela Harrell in 1970, Jeanette welcomed her into the family as a daughter. In a few years Jeanette became known as “Nett” to her grandchildren, Tiffany and Jordan. She was later blessed to welcome their husbands into the family and be part of the life of four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Saylor, Brinlea and Haley-Anne.

Jeanette was always very involved in her community. She took the time and interest to be in many organizations. She held many titles and received many honors for her dedication and worked hard in these groups.

She has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge since 1935. She was also part of the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school classes.

She was past president and member of the Schubert Music Club since 1940. In 2005 she was presented a plaque for her 65th year, making her the oldest living member in that group at that time. She was a longtime member of the Walnut Ridge Library Board. Delta Kappa Gamma was also a group of which she was proud to be a part. She also served as the former chairman of the American Heart Association of Lawrence County. She and her husband enjoyed many years as members of the Elks Lodge in Jonesboro and the Country Club in Walnut Ridge.

Jeanette is survived by a son, Ben R. Bush Jr. and his wife Pam of Jonesboro; two granddaughters and their husbands, Dr. Ryan and Tiffany Meyer of Evansville, Ind., and Jeremy and Jordan McIntire of Jonesboro; and four great-grandchildren, Aiden and Saylor Meyer, and Brinlea and Haley-Anne McIntire. She also leaves behind much-loved nephews, a niece and cousins.

Lasting memorials may be made to The Gideons International, Walnut Ridge School Library or the Lawrence County Library. Books will be placed to these in her name.

Pallbearers are John Bland, Robert McNeal, Danny Gibson, Relton Allison, Leon Neece, Wendell Tolson, Dud Bassett and Marvin Kennedy.

Honorary pallbearers are Billy Joe Dame, Victor Hanshaw, Bobby Jackson, Randy Scott, Bill Ramer, Gary Hilburn, Bob Malone, John Fender, Barry Winningham and Ben Henry.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church at Walnut Ridge with Jay Clark and Pastor Steve Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday in the First United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge.

Dollie Rasdon Frasure

CARAWAY — Dollie Rasdon Frasure, 92, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Craighead Nursing Center.

She was born July 8, 1917, in Black Oak to the late Bill and Birdie Dowdy Rasdon. She was a member of the Caraway Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Gary and Patsy Frasure of Jonesboro; a daughter and her husband, Loretta and Bearl Brooks of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, Denise Flemon of Jonesboro, Angie Hamlett of Paragould, Dan Brooks and Derek Brooks of Las Vegas; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Frasure; three brothers, Bryan McNabb, Levi Rasdon and Clabe Rasdon; and three sisters, Sylvia Morrow, Lena Alsup and Lucy Rea.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Gregg Funeral Home Chapel at Jonesboro with Gary Prince officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight in the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jerry Qualls, Jim Grisham, Johnny McCord, Dane McCord, Butch Hamlett and Chad Flemon.

Jimmie Dale Johnston

GOOBERTOWN — Jimmie Dale Johnston, 61, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Nov. 5, at his home in Goobertown.

Jim was a master plumber and was owner of J&J Plumbing until his retirement in 2007. In the ’60s he played organ for a local band, The Purple Canteen. He was a deputy sheriff in Craighead County under Floyd Johnson from 1982-84. He was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association for a number of years, where he was a heeler in team roping.

Jim was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church and took great joy in service to his church and his Lord. He was an avid sportsman and loved fishing and duck hunting at his houseboat in Mississippi with his brother and special friends.

Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon Hendley Johnston of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Ebony and Patrick Wheeley of Goobertown; granddaughters, Savannah and Sidney Wheeley; his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Betty Johnston of Goobertown; and a nephew, Jeffery Johnston.

He is also survived by his family of his heart, David, Rhonda and Adam Coe, and David, Lisa and Jessica Robinson; his Christian family of New Antioch Baptist Church; and a great host of friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Raymond and Ruth Johnston, and a nephew, Dewayne Johnston.

A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in New Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Wells and Larry Ring officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Floyd Stonecipher, Jim Gillis, Jim Clayton, Larry Grissom, Rick Bridger, Mike Rackley, Stacy Prater and Greg Newsom.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of New Antioch Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight in Langford-Bookout Funeral Home.

Paul Everett Lawrence

LITTLE ROCK — Paul Lawrence, 89, formerly of Clover Bend, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Springhill Baptist Hospital at North Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Charlotte Lawrence; a son, James Paul “Flea” Lawrence; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include
daughters, Peggy Ann Capps of Hoxie and Becky Miller-Gaither of Fontaine; a son, Richard Lawrence of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge with Alvin Lewis officiating. Burial will be private.

Helen Mackey

BAY — Helen Mackey, 88, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Ridgecrest Health and Rehab.

She was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Missouri to the late Jonathan and Lora Hull. Mrs. Mackey retired from General Motors.

Survivors include a brother, Robert Hull of Flushing, Mich.; a niece, Needa Martin of Bay; and several other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Hagy Cemetery near Dexter, Mo., under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

David Lee Moore

PIGGOTT — David Lee Moore, 51, of Piggott passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Jane Moore; five brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by two children, David Moore Jr. and Tiffany Moore, both of Piggott; three brothers, Gary, Robert and Ricky; and three sisters, Donna, Suveda and Brenda.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Hoggard & Sons Chapel. Burial is in New Hope Cemetery at Pollard.

Danny Byron Mulhollen

FAYETTEVILLE — Danny Byron “Dan” Mulhollen, 67, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, in Fayetteville.

He was born Sept. 14, 1942, in Missouri and was preceded in death by his father, Bill Mulhollen, and his mother, Lena Crafton Mulhollen.

Survivors include his former wife of 22 years, Cathy Mulhollen; two daughters, Melissa (Mark) Pearrow of Dedham, Mass., and Kristi (Chad) Waddell of Jonesboro; and four grandchildren.

A private service was held in Corning on Thursday.

Clara Spear

MCKINNEY, Texas — Clara Spear, 93, of McKinney died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in McKinney.

She is survived by one son, Leon Barker (Linda) of Brea, Calif.; one daughter, Beth Welch (Mike) of McKinney; one sister, Maggie Burgert of Mexico, Mo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Gracelawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. today in Dillinger Funeral Home.

Martha A. Ward

JONESBORO — Martha A. Ward, 77, of Jonesboro died Friday at her home.

Born at Judsonia, she had spent most of her life in Jonesboro. She collected angels and, before her illness, liked to crochet and read. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

She is survived by her son, Presley Sisco of Rogers; daughters and sons-in-law, Paula Miller and her husband of Haskell and Tammy and Ronnie Reeves of Jonesboro; brother, Charles Pratt of Jonesboro; sister, Alice Alsup of Winnfield, La.; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Oaklawn Cemetery with Dr. Vic Stepka officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Melva Weatherford

COLUMBIA, Ill. — Melva Weatherford, 79, formerly of Manila, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009.

She was born March 6, 1934, at Leachville to the late Leonard and Effie
Bazzill Rickard.

Surviving are her sons, Les Weatherford of Overland Park, Kan., Rick Weatherford of St. Charles, Mo., and Joe Weatherford
of Cahokie, Ill.; sisters, Mable Davidson and Opal Sanders; brother, R.L. Rickard; and six grandchildren.

Her husband, Carroll Weatherford, also preceded her in death.

Wayne Wells, 46, of Ravenden passed away early Friday, Nov. 6.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Wells of the home; his children, Brandi Wells of Ravenden, Shawn Spears of Tulsa, Okla., Brandy Spears of Rogers and Alex Spears of Ravenden Springs; stepfather, Allen Murphy of Ravenden; a brother, Keith Wells of Fayetteville; a sister, Patricia Pritchard of Missouri; and six grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Michael Bradley officiating. Interment will be in Opposition Cemetery near Ravenden.
